Special Note: There is a bookmark to print and cut for all grades (it is front and back): https://drive.google.com/file/d/10XgyeFPdCc4fvOAFTxEWwM8sJLH-EtZc/view?usp=drive_link. K & 1 will use their bookmarks in the library (with crayons at least) and leave in the library (they gain bookmark points from following directions, keeping their bookmark neat, and bringing back any books (if they take books). Second through 6th grade can do as much as they can during library class but should take the bookmark with them to do more as allowed in class, in keyboarding class, or at home. Second through 6th grade receive bookmark club points when returning completed bookmarks and bringing back their checked out book.
Please congratulate and note those students that returned their bookmarks from last week. Please leave these for me separated by class. I will create a bookmark club bulletin board so students can see our top classes and top students.
Activity
In table groups, ask students to name parts of a book (K & 1) and text features (2nd-6th). Remind students that these parts and features help us evaluate a book or text.
Say the evaluate chant and have students repeat each line as you go. The chant gives examples of evaluating a book.
E, Explore the cover, what will it be
V, View the pages, let's look and see
A, Analyze the title, it helps, you agree
L, Let's decide which one is right for me
U, Understand the words, easy as can be
A, Act on the book that's perfect,
you'll see
T, Take a moment, choose with glee
E, Evaluate, find the book for you and me
Read the front and back instructions to students for the assignment bookmark (K&1, leave bookmark and 2nd-6th take and return next week). Students can read and complete activities related to the bookmark as time allows during library class.
